Fierce and Fabulous | Las Vegas Boudoir

Ms. R is one of those feline-like females who just oozes sex appeal – not in the basic form of sensuality either, but in a sophisticated manner that very few possess. She has a confidence about her that is awe-inspiring and a fashion sense to be envied! She brought the hottest little Herve Leger dress that we were all oohing & ahhing over! This girl also knows how to smoke a cigar like a champ! Our time together was a bit rushed so I worried about her puffing away continuously for the sake of the photo, but she pulled it off brilliantly! Consider me impressed!

Thank you Ms. R for a fun morning and for giving me permission to share your imagery here. You rock!

I’m on a roll this week with product updates for you all! This time around it is featuring my all-time favorite product, the Showstopper Album (with a Tokyo cover). You really can’t get more glamorous than this! The pretty sequin detailing along with the thick plexi-glass image display make this a cover to be coveted! Oh, be still my heart!

So excited to send it off to the beauty featured in it. I hope she and her hubby love it as much as I do! Thank you for letting me share these images here!

Beauty and Brains | Las Vegas Boudoir

Some of us are blessed with either a little more beauty than brains or a little more brains than beauty. But, this girl has the best of both worlds! I was floored by her striking good looks and smitten by her wisdom. Her humor is dark & witty and she has a mystery about her that is absolutely enthralling. How lucky was I to get to spend a couple of hours with such a girl?

About Photography Podcast | Las Vegas Boudoir

Recently I was honored to be a guest on Ed Verosky’s About Photography Podcast series. Ed picked my brain about the business of boudoir, Vegas-style. I had so much fun doing this podcast with him. I absolutely love my job and adore my clients so once I got over my initial nerves I thoroughly enjoyed getting to talk about my world of boudoir! Ed was a fantastic host who put me right at ease (he is also a very accomplished and talented photographer). I can’t wait to do it again!

ad-podcast

I truly hope that budding photographers as well as experienced photographers will find something in the podcast useful or interesting. Some of the things I mention in the podcast that I think are worth expanding on here for other photographers are:

Marketing:
Stop following other boudoir photographers and research instead big brands that share your target audience. We have a huge problem in our rapidly growing industry right now with copying. Newbies are copying websites word for word, using others images, marketing campaigns, etc. Big no-no. Instead, find inspiration that you can make your own. Another marketing tip is to invest in a graphic designer for your marketing material, website and logo. It will make a huge difference, I promise!

Photography:
The same could be said for finding your own style of photography. Look towards other photography niches to find inspiration….fashion, glamour, beauty, even weddings. It seems as though some of the masters of photography are being overlooked in favor of new photographers. But, you can find so much inspiration from the likes of Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Ellen von Unwerth, Herb Ritts, Terry Richardson, Peter Lindbergh, and Mario Testino to name only a few. Just remember not to copy them but to find inspiration from them.

Portfolio Building:
I know my comments regarding using models may not be popular in my industry but it is something I feel very strongly about. If your target audience is real women who are not accustomed to posing in front of a camera and who have realistic body types for the average woman, then you really shouldn’t be shooting models for your portfolio. You lose the potential to learn how to work with body issues, self esteem issues and won’t be prepared for the real thing when it comes along. It’s a bit deceiving for women who are contemplating using you. It could potentially hurt your clients sense of confidence if you are unaccustomed to working with real gals not used to being in such a vulnerable situation. If you insist on using a model for these purposes, please include a disclaimer that she is in fact a model. On the flip side, if your target clientele is actually models then obviously this is perfectly fine or if you have personal artistic projects. This is just my opinion, of course, but I do feel very protective of women looking for a photographer who understands how to work with them individually, with their fears and perceived flaws.

So, there ya have it. My first podcast interview! I’m absolutely thrilled and hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did doing it!

Comments are always welcome and appreciated. Let me know if you have any questions at all and I would be more than happy to answer them.

xoxo

A Classic Beauty | Las Vegas Boudoir

Once upon a time, I was a young lady with a real thirst for the arts who very much enjoyed reading classic plays. I went through a rather hardcore phase with this when I lived in LA. I couldn’t get enough of them at that time in my life. One of my favorite playwrights was Tennessee Williams, so imagine my delight when I laid my eyes on Mrs. M and knew that I had found my long-lost Maggie from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof! Mrs. M had such a strong resemblance to a youthful Elizabeth Taylor that I knew we had to try to capture some of that spirit from that particular play. Hera Beauty did a fabulous job as always at transforming Mrs. M into that desirable character! And, to top it all off, we finished the shoot with some shower shots…sexy!

Special thanks to Mr. M for setting this all up for his lovely wife while they were in town. The love between these two was so apparent in my communication with each of them and I found it both inspiring and touching! Thank you both for that! And thank you to Mrs. M for allowing me to share these gorgeous images with you all here now. xoxo

WPPI 2010 Recap | Las Vegas Boudoir

In planning for my favorite week of the year as a photographer – WPPI (next week!), I realized I had drafted a post about last year’s conference but never posted it because I was waiting to receive an image to include with it. I am just going to post the old draft now anyway so you can all see how amazing this conference was for me both professionally and personally. It’s going to be even better this year! So many exciting things in store! I can’t wait to get to share it all with you!

•    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

Wow, what a whirlwind the past couple of weeks has been! I came away from WPPI feeling completely inspired, encouraged and feeling like I could take on the world!

Here are a few highlights:

First off, I have to thank Maura Kate of Irma Lou Photography for paying it forward BIG time. I had planned on attending the Business Institute and just going to the Trade Show, or taking baby steps since last year I only went to the trade show and thought next year I would be able to attend the classes too. Well, after atending the Business Institute I realized I was left with this yearning to learn more and be a part of all of the action. In comes Irma, who suddenly wasn’t able to make it to WPPI this year and through Leigh of Fleur di Leigh Photography, offered to give her Full Access ticket away! And, she gave it to me! Oh my goodness, I can’t even begin to express how grateful I was for this generous gift. You two ladies made my year! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn more about my craft and continue pursuing my dream!

The most inspiring class I took had to be wedding photographer Jasmine Star’s Ghetto Fabulous Marketing. I was most excited to hear her speak, even though I really didn’t think I needed to learn anything else at the show about Marketing. Her first class had sold out, but I was fortunate enough to have just picked up my ticket for WPPI to hear an announcement of her makeup class. I ran straight up to grab a seat. She definitely didn’t disappoint. While I already knew her story, I found her to be utterly inspiring in staying true to yourself and putting more of your personality out there. One of the most important things she said that stuck with me is that it’s okay if not everybody likes you. I know this, but as a perfectionist I fight this all the time. Hearing her say that actually repelling some people though is a positive thing since you don’t want to waste your time on the wrong people anyway, resonated with me deeply.

I LOVED seeing the Print Gallery of the finalists in the print competition. So inspiring to see such great work all in one space. Although, I was a bit disappointed to see that boudoir images were lacking in presence there.

The Trade Show was awesome since I got to meet my vendors in person. I was especially excited to meet Casey who handles my account with Forbeyon – they produce my Luxury Albums so beautifully.

And, of course, there were the parties on Tuesday night. Well, there were parties every night but I limited the ones I attended to just that evening. First up was the Boudoir Get-together that I coordinated at Rouge inside of the MGM. There was a pretty decent turn-out. Thank you to all who attended! We all network with each other online, so it was so great to see so many amazing boudoir shooters in person finally! After that a few of us all headed over to the[ B] Party which Becker of The [B] School was throwing at Mandalay Bay. Becker was such a gracious host. I was impressed by how he greeted everyone at the door himself and let us all know where the goods were…the goods being fantastic mexican food (delish tacos etc) and drinks (yummy margaritas and sangrias). I was so glad I went with my own group of fellow photographers though, as people seemed to be sticking to their own little groups instead of networking and mingling. I would have felt completely awkward trying to meet people in a situation like that!

Another highlight that evening was actually getting to meet Jasmine Star! The ever-so-popular pin-up photographer Robert Alvarado even snapped a picture of me with her! Thanks for being so kind and generous Jasmine!

Towards the end of the festivities I was fortunate enough to get to do a boudoir session for another boudoir photographer! Talk about fun! I was sooo glad I was able to work that into my schedule, as I had turned away a couple other boudoir photographers, not knowing if I could find the time during WPPI. But, it worked out for this one, thankfully! She was just as pretty as can be too. She reminded me of Kate Beckinsale!

I am both a bit relieved WPPI has ended so I can get back to business as normal, but a bit sad also. There was so much that I feel like I missed. Next year I am thinking of actually taking the week off (maybe even staying at the MGM) since I had a hard time trying to tackle all of that plus my work load. And, because my phone signal was just awful there I decided it would be better to plan on meeting up with other photographers way in advance. So, next year I will be painstakingly planning out my schedule with classes, activities and meetups.

I am more devoted than ever to becoming the best photographer and business woman I can possibly be. Thank you WPPI and to all the cool people I met for making me even more passionate about what I do. Because of WPPI I am excited about implementing some changes to Haute Shots for better workflow, marketing, etc.

Bangs Before Botox | Las Vegas Boudoir

Well, after an overwhelming vote on facebook in favor of me getting bangs, I went and did it! What do you think?

stacie-bangs

Seriously, I am not enjoying aging one little bit and figured I would try getting bangs again since they are so youthful looking instead of getting botox. I am an overly expressive person and am starting to show lines on my forehead because of this. And, bangs are fantastic at hiding that! I still might try botox one of these days, but most likely I will be trying it for help with migraines instead of aging.

Special thanks to Jackie at Michael Boychuck’s COLOR Salon for not only talking me through my fear of getting bangs, but for doing such a great job! xoxo

P.S. Jennifer Aniston just got bangs too! They look gorgeous on her! See her new bangs here.

A Very Fashionable Girl | Las Vegas Boudoir

Referred by two previous Haute Shots clients (both fabulous gals themselves), the statuesque Mrs. Y decided to do a boudoir shoot after most of her gorgeous tattoo had been completed. I was inspired the second I saw the amazing array of colors in it. But what inspired me even more were her outfit selections! Oh my goodness, were they ever sexy….and creative! I loved how she played with the colors in one of them (blue and orange) – simply gorgeous!

Thank you so much Mrs Y for being such a cool subject! You were a photographers dream to photograph – from your beautiful bone structure and perfect skin to your ease and enthusiasm with posing. You really went for ‘it’ and I appreciated that! And, thank you so much for letting me share your images.

Lingerie Resources | Las Vegas Boudoir Photography

I get lots of inquiries regarding good sites to shop for lingerie from and while I keep quite a few sites listed on the side of the blog (to the right), I wanted to list my absolute favorites on this post for you now. While some of these are more expensive than, let’s say, Victoria’s Secret, or less accessible (as some are Europe based companies), you can always use these as examples in finding similar, more affordable options when you go on your search for the perfect attire for your shoot.

Wish List Wednesday

This week I have lots of home decor items on my wish-list.

First up is an office chair I have been lusting over for years. I love the shape of these, but wonder if they are comfortable enough for someone who spends hours upon hours at their desk. If any of you own a chair similar to this, I would love to hear your opinion on the comfort of them.

Yesterday I stumbled upon this living room display for Z Gallerie. I thought it was decadently beautiful. I am normally drawn to white furniture or something like this (a neutral gray) where you can add pops of color to the room with artwork and accents.

I have come to the conclusion that my all-time favorite kitchen and bathroom countertop material is Carrara Marble. Michelangelo used this type of marble for his famous David statue. I am totally obsessed with it right now. What is your favorite countertop surface?

Okay, enough day-dreaming! Back to work for me! Hope you all are having a fabulous Wednesday!

Shooting a Shooter – Las Vegas Boudoir

In the time leading up to WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Professionals International) conference last month I had quite a few inquiries from other boudoir photographers who were going to be in town and wanted to get a boudoir session from me for themselves. Unfortunately I had to turn away all but one pretty lady due to my crazy schedule that week. I felt so bad about not being able to do all of the shoots but am grateful for the opportunity to have done at least one shoot for another photographer.

I have to admit I was nervous as all get out (then again, I’m always nervous about EVERYTHING…lol)! When shooting for another photographer, you know you are dealing with a person who has a highly trained eye so the pressure to deliver perfection is even stronger. But, Mrs T walked in and put my nerves at ease with her charming personality, fun ideas for her shoot and her absolute beauty. It ended up being one of the funnest shoots ever! Something about her reminded me of Kate Beckinsale…she is a real looker! And the girl knew how to pose!

Thank you Mrs. T for a fabulous time! Looking forward to next year when we can do it again!

What’s Sexy Now? Guest 1 – Las Vegas Boudoir

whatssexynow1

Haute Shots is proud to be starting a new blog series called, What’s Sexy Now featuring smart, fashionable, successful & fabulous women giving their thoughts on what makes a woman sexy and sharing some of their favorite sexy things from films to fashion.

I wanted to kick the series off with the lovely Alison Rubke of the all-too-fabulous blog, Frou Frou Fashionista and owner of one of the most exquisite lingerie boutiques in the US, Faire Frou Frou, (Faire Frou Frou means ‘to show off’ in French – too cute!). She has impeccable taste and I am so happy that she is sharing some of her insights with us all here. And in case you missed Alison’s prior guest spot on Haute Shots, you can find her past post here.

Without further ado, here are Alison’s answers and imagery that she finds sexy:

  • What makes a woman sexy?
  • A woman is sexy when she has a positive attitude, a sweet charm, class, confidence and intelligence. Those qualities make a woman beautiful.

  • Famous female that most embodies sexy to you:
  • When listing the sexy qualities in a woman I was thinking of Sarah Jessica Parker…something about her is just so cool. I love her personality! Or even someone like Grace Kelly…such a beauty with a bit of mystery.

  • Favorite sexy film or literature (or both):
  • Hmm, sexy film or book? Does Twilight count (LOL!)…I read quite a bit, but nothing too sexy. To be honest, I’m more of a romantic comedy personality. So movies like “Something’s Gotta Give” and “You’ve Got Mail” are my favorites.

  • Song or Album that never fails to put you in a sexy mood:
  • Sexy mood music is definitely most R&B music. From “Sexual Healing” Marvin Gaye to “Make Love to You” by Boyz to Men to “Get Off” by Prince to “Nasty Boy” by Christina Aguilera…oh my goodness, there are so many good ones! However, in our lingerie boutique we play a lot of flirty music from Brigitte Bardot and Marilyn Monroe which is provocative in a fun way.

  • Fashion trend, item or designer collection that you find sexy:
  • The ultimate sexy item is thigh high/stockings with a garter & high heels (Louboutins of course!). Being a lingerie boutique owner, I understand the importance of lingerie boosting your mood. Some incredibly hot designers right now are Lascivious and Damaris…both are tastefully daring! When you see someone like Dita von Teese perform and use her stockings as a prop, you really get an idea of how sexy lingerie can be. On a completely different note, I find black & white photography very sexy…just take a look at anything by Ellen von Unwerth and you will understand!

  • Sexy destination:
  • I think a sexy destination is a place that is visually stimulating with a lot of rich history and beautiful architecture. Places like Paris, London, Vienna and Amsterdam come to mind.

  • What makes you feel sexy?
  • The boost of confidence certainly comes from creating a good presentation of myself. From a light perfume to a darling bra to pretty jewels and accessories. I really enjoy developing my style and really find joy in fashion. I enjoy finding ways to work lingerie into my outerwear, whether it’s pretty stockings or a statement bra with pretty straps, making these looks work are certainly morale boosters.

Thank you Alison for sharing your thoughts with us!
Be sure to watch for future installments of What’s Sexy Now to catch other great women and their thoughts on the subject!

Blushing Bride-To-Be – Las Vegas Boudoir

Miss H came to me from Northern California while she was in Vegas preparing for her upcoming wedding. She decided to do her shoot at 8 in the morning, a hard time to feel ones sexiest, but she was amazing at that hour! The camera absolutely loved her (just look those incredible eyes!) and I had a blast starting my day with this beauty! Thank you Miss H for a great boudoir session! And congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I am sooo excited for you!

Haute Shots Products – Las Vegas Boudoir

Sorry I haven’t been posting on the blog lately. I’ve been super busy with lots of shoots and tons of orders as well as my dog Mazzy’s surgery (she had a lump removed from the top of her head….I was a bigger baby than she was!). I also have been working on a lot of images that I don’t have permission to display, which made me want to remind everyone that all of the images on my website & blog are ONLY used with my clients permission. I have my clients fill out a form at the time of their session stating what they are comfortable with as far as usage of their images goes.

Because a lot of my clients have hubby’s that travel a lot I decided to create something my girls can tuck inside their suitcases to remind the guys of the gorgeous gal awaiting their return. I thought this mini-accordian style book would be perfect for this. It is 3×3 inches of pure hauteness! You can choose from the red or black covers with magnetic closure.

And, for the guys who want to gift their gal with boudoir, I now have gift certificates! Email me for more information.

Haute Shots is proud to be donating to an upcoming charity, so I made a little promo book so the guests can learn what a fabulous experience a boudoir session is with my team.

Wednesday Wish List | Las Vegas Boudoir

Joe and I are in a race to buy a house by summertime. We have been looking and putting offers on homes since last summer/fall and keep getting beaten by investors with cash offers. I am seriously beginning to think that homes aren’t even being sold to real people who want to actually live in them. Neighborhoods in Vegas are rapidly being bought up and turned into rentals only. Not sure what that does to the value of a neighborhood, but surely it couldn’t be good. It definitely doesn’t sit well with us and we are losing hope more each day. Our dream was to have a house with a pool by summer so we could entertain friends & family.

This leads me to my Wednesday Wish List. On it this week, a house by my favorite architect Richard Neutra, a snazzy outdoor seating set from West Elm and a mini-vacation to somewhere beachy. We are considering a short vacay to either San Diego or Newport Beach!

What are you wishing for this week?

Canadian Beauty | Las Vegas Boudoir

Mrs H came for her session while visiting Vegas all the way from Canada! It just so happens that she was the first of 2 sessions with girls from Canada that day! Mrs H was so much fun though! Her peppy spirit, beautiful eyes and gorgeous smile totally won me over! Here’s what she had to say about her sneak peeks:

“SCREAM!!!!!!!!! That’s me screaming in excitement!!! I totally love the teasers, (and they are teasers for sure) my husband loved them! I can’t wait to see all of them. Pat on the back to you and your team – great job. You are a wonderful photographer and a great presence to be around. Thank you so much.” ~Mrs H

I loved how she wore a cute shorts jumper as one of her outfits. It will give her more usage from her photographs that way! While she may not want to show everyone the pics of her in lingerie, she can certainly share the other pics on facebook etc. Smart girl!

Haute Shots Happenings

I’ve been a busy, busy girl lately. Between doing shoots, processing lots of lovely images, fulfilling lots & lots of orders (with so many more to still finish), setting up a new Gallery for proofing & ordering images, to analyzing my marketing & considering new packages to offer…it’s been crazy over here!

I am also organizing an event to celebrate the first anniversary of Haute Shots! And, of course, the AIDS Walk…both in April. Watch for more regular events too. I truly consider all of YOU as part of Haute Shots (it’s not just about the photographer or the photography) and hope to carry these amazing relationships into the future!

I did get to have a little fun this past weekend, finally. Thanks to Fiji Water, Joe and I got to see the band Jet (LOVE them!) perform at Rock & Roll Wine held at the gorgeous pool at Caesar’s Palace! Here’s a silly pic of me with the band (below). We were all supposed to do something ‘ridiculously funny’ for the picture. While I admit, I look absolutely ridiculous (I mean, come on, could I possibly look like more of a dork?), I don’t think any of us were very creative with this at all! Well, Cam (on the left) gave it a good try at least. They put on one heck of a great performance for their show though. So fun!

Haute Stuff | Las Vegas Boudoir

Remember the Valentine’s Day contest we had for the single ladies last month? Well, here is our lovely winner, Ms. F. Isn’t she absolutely gorgeous? Remember guys, she’s single! But not for long, I’m sure!

Here’s what Ms. F had to say about her experience:

I know it takes time to get used to someplace new, since I have only been in Vegas since January. The problem is that I am not getting used to it here. Winning the contest with Haute Shots helped ease that. I felt comfortable and like my old self. (My old self is pre January) When I found out I won, I had something marvelous to look forward to. When I scheduled the date for the shoot, I had something else to look forward to. When I picked out my outfits, it was something else fun to look forward to.

Then the day of the shoot arrived and I couldn’t concentrate at work. I was nervous. Very. Nervous. I thought to myself, “I am about to disrobe in front of a stranger! Help!” I swallowed that down and headed to the shoot. I felt at ease as soon as I met Stacie. She was wrapping up a shoot for another client but was still attentive to both of us. (I have since then bought 2 head bands from the other client :) )

I sat with Kat and Whitney from Hera Beauty and they transformed me in what felt like no time at all. They are magicians! Time does fly when you are having fun. During the shoot, I was not a single iota of nervous or self conscious. It was great. I know everyone’s testimonial says that but until you book a shoot and do it yourself you won’t know.

Overall, winning the contest has been a brilliant bright spot in my short time here. Thank you Haute Shots for making a good night for me turn into a month or so of giddiness. ~Ms. F

This One’s in the Bag!

Be still my heart. I may have finally found a camera bag worthy of using by Epiphanie Bags! I am just torn between the Ginger (hello? I have a package named Ginger!) and the Lola (RED – it matches my branding better!). Decisions, decisions. I have awhile to figure it out I suppose, as I don’t have any new purchases laid out in the budget as of yet. Bummer.

Which one do you guys like best? The Ginger or the Lola? Please leave me a comment with your answers!
