On Saturday I received the most interesting envelope from the professional photography organization I belong to, PPA. Most of the news I receive from them is through email, but this was through regular mail and I could feel something more than a letter in it. I opened it up with great curiosity and to my surprise, it was an invitation to teach at next year's Imaging USA Conference in Phoenix, AZ! I must have jumped around squealing with absolute delight and flailing my arms and legs for 10 whole minutes...yes, I was that excited!
I was completely shocked because I always figured the speakers at these things had sponsors who were actively trying to get them speaking gigs. But I had not even tried for this! To have been selected by a committee of about 20 photographers that I respect, is the ultimate honor. One I don't take lightly. So, I will be planning and planning to make this class the best class I could ever teach.
I will be teaching a hands-on boudoir photography class. Other photographers teaching these hands-on classes are people I have admired for quite some time now .... Matthew Jordan Smith (swoon! I LOVE this guy!), David and Luke Edmonson, Jeff Lubin and Beth Forester, amongst others. Pinch me now, people!
What's really ironic about this though, is I had just entered a contest to teach a 30 minute class at CreativeLive and they overlooked me entirely. So, the saying, when one door closes, another one opens, really is true for me! Suddenly, all of my struggles in my entire life, feel like they were for something. They all brought me to this very moment where I can hopefully make a difference for somebody else who may be struggling.
Thank you PPA and to your Speaker Selection Committee for choosing me! I cannot wait to be a part of this!
