Makeup For Photographers | Vegas Boudoir

I'm on a beauty binge on the blog this week!

Sometimes I wonder if in another life I would have been a makeup artist. My love of makeup and beauty products date back to some of my earliest memories of watching my pretty Mom apply her own makeup. Then in my teen years I finally got to play with it myself. I went through some pretty crazy phases, even one where I had a Souxie and the Banshees makeup look perfected to the point that people told me I should become a makeup artist. Well, that never happened, but my life led me down a path where I get to work closely with beauty experts.

Since becoming a photographer, I have been in desperate need of makeup that lasts and can endure a good smudging, from my camera being held to my face, mixed with the sweat of hard work. Many times after a shoot, I take a quick glance at myself before heading back out into the world and am utterly horrified at the sight in front of me. All of my eye makeup ends up below my eyes and the rest of me just looks completely washed out! After admiring my perfectly dolled up clients for a few hours, this is not a look I especially want to see on myself.

I am happy to say that I finally have some solutions! This is for female photographers everywhere as well as women who demand extra staying power throughout their day.

Mascara
The biggest culprit for dreaded raccoon eyes. Tube mascara to the rescue!
Blinc
Loreal Beauty Tubes

Eyeliner
The ultimate stay-put eyeliner is by Illuminare. This stuff means business!

Primers
For Face I use Smashbox
For eyes I use Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original

Foundation
My love affair with Make Up For Ever's HD Foundation is still going strong!

Eyeshadow
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bronze
Illuminare again for shadows that really stay!

Lipstick
Stains are the answer here. I have used Benetint by Benefit on my lips for years. I am also a fan of Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Stain in Cherry Pop.
I like to use a sheer wash of color over stains like Face Stockholm's Cranberry Veil
For a more natural looking pout, I love Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss in Sunset by L'Oreal.

Blush
Cream blush. I use Nars in Cassandre and a pretty peach cream blush from Revlon.
Stains can also be used like the one from Benefit (Benetint). Tarte also makes some great gel formulations.

Wow Stacie, it’s like you raided my makeup bag.

I love Makeup Forever eyeshadows, especially with the Urban Decay primer underneath. I use Tarte foundation for every day (I don’t wear it during a shoot because nothing stays on). I’ve been using Blinc mascara since before it was available in stores–that stuff does not come off, and it’s so great with my allergy-prone eyes.

I use Tarte’s cream blush and I have their stain to use on lips and cheeks if I’m really going to get sweaty.

I’ll have to check out that eyeliner. That’s what winds up under my eyes to the point that I’ve stopped wearing it on shoots!
