How to Prep Your Skin for a Photo Shoot | Vegas Boudoir

Prepping your skin is especially important for a boudoir photo shoot where you are showing so much of it. You want your skin to look healthy - dewy and glowy, not dry and flaky (and not too shiny either). Here are a few tips I have learned along the way:

Exfoliate:

Dry Brushing the body is great for exfoliating before you shower. It gets your circulation flowing, along with shedding off the extra dry skin you might have. I would do this the week leading up to your session, not the day of, in case it causes redness. Dry Brushing appears to be pretty popular right now with phenomenal claims of purging toxins from the body, etc. The claims are probably pure hype, but it certainly couldn't hurt to try! To learn more about this, read this Birchbox Dry Brushing article or just google Dry Brushing.

Burt's Bees Cranberry & Pomegranate Sugar Body Scrub is a pure delight! I would definitely use this on the day of your shoot for soft and supple skin that will retain moisture for hours! It smells delicious too! This is by far, the best body scrub I have ever used!

Don't forget to exfoliate your face too! I love Dermalogica's Age Smart MultiVitamin Thermafoliant for this.

Moisturize:

As i mentioned in a prior post, I adore Burt's Bees Radiance Day Cream. I also love their Naturally Ageless Serum applied underneath it for an extra boost of moisture.

Make sure you go to bed the night before with a clean face and a soothing night cream. I prefer another Burt's Bees product for this, Naturally Ageless Night Cream. Obviously, you can use what you normally use for these things. For my skin though, these products are what I have seen the greatest results from.

For moisturizing the body, I won't go without my Alba Botanica Natural Very Emollient Body Lotion with SPF 15 for daytime. It's super emollient, just like the name implies!

At your photo session, while dressing, layer a little Prrty Peaushun Skin Tight Body Lotion in a matching shade or go deeper for a light bronze. Gives a beautiful shimmery glow! And it has the added bonus of using firming ingredients! Burt's Bees Radiance Body Lotion is also nice. It too has mica in it for a subtle shimmer that the camera will love! Please avoid slathering yourself with oils for shimmer. I have nearly fallen on several occasions from the oil slicks this can cause. :-)

Eyes:

Be sure to get plenty of sleep the night before your photo session. If your eyes still feel tired, try cucumber slices, wet tea bags, or a product like EyeDews.

Facial Peel:

The most effective peel I have ever found is the NCN 30% Pro Pumpkin Peel. It gives your face a nice, rosy glow. Please do NOT use this peel the day of your session for the first time though. You absolutely must test it out prior, since it is very strong and can cause an adverse reaction.

Protection:

Please protect your skin from the sun leading up to your shoot. There is nothing worse than coming to your session sunburned or with tan lines that you don't want to show in your images. If you decide you absolutely must go into the sun in the days before your session, please use sunblock. The L'Oreal Sublime Sun line of products is my favorite! I use their Crystal Clear Mist and am head over heels for their Liquid Silk Sunshield for the Face.

Also, resist the urge to get a spray tan. It reads horribly in photos by making you look overly orange and very splotchy. It's difficult to correct with retouching too.

Diet:
Try the Perricone 3-Day Diet. Not exactly sure where to buy the full 3 day menu, but the sample menu could serve as the ideal day-before-your shoot menu.

For the ultimate in skin preparation, pay a visit to Kat, our Hera Beauty makeup artist. She is a licensed esthetician who can give your skin a pampering facial and can also provide you with any waxing services you might need beforehand. Go to the Hera Beauty website to book your appointment now.

Hope you found this helpful in preparation for your photo shoot. Let me know if you try any of these products and how you liked them!

xoxo,

Stacie
