Dubai Day 4
Yesterday was more of an adventure of sorts. After lounging for the first half of the day, reading...after the gym, of course, Joe and I set out for a trip to a different mall. We decided to use the metro as our choice in transportation. After a nice walk to the station, we entered and tried desperately to look like we knew what we were doing, however we were completely baffled..from getting tickets, to getting to our destination. After fumbling at the ticket machine, we quickly made our way to the awaiting train and hurried onboard before the doors closed. We took our seats and breathed a sigh of relief that we made it. I was feeling quite proud that we figured it all out until I realized it was taking longer than I had imagined for them to call our station. I got up and walked over to the map, where I discovered we were going the wrong way! Ha! We were at the end of the line and had to get off and then onto another train, and we were finally on our way to the Mall of Emirates. Once at the mall, we had a quick lunch at the Shake Shack (had one of the best burgers ever there) and then walked over to the indoor skiing venue where we watched people skiing indoors. How cool is that?
When we returned back to Basil and Elena's, we quickly dressed for the evening and we all headed over to the canal in what is considered 'old Dubai' and boarded a gorgeous glass boat. This was dinner in high style. We were seated at the very front at the 'Captain's table' and Proceeded to dine on potatoe leek soup, king prawns and scallops, baked sea bass and a chocolate fondant that was to-die-for. This was by far one of the most memorable dinners I have ever had. So grateful to our friends for arranging this for us. they are truly the best tour guides one could ever hope for.
One of my goals for this vacation is to spend some selfish time considering how to restore balance in my life and finding enjoyment for myself that I can bring home with me. I confess, I am a workaholic, or a workaFROLIC, and this probably isn't healthy for my family and me in the long run. I have already decided I need to start taking more time to spend with my family (and friends), and I need to start reading for pleasure again. I also need to design set hours for work instead of working morning till bedtime. And a day off is an absolute must. Oh and I need to get my butt back in the gym. Hearing my friends adorable little daughter ask if I was having a baby sealed that deal! LOL - thanks a lot traveller's bloat! Seriously though, working out clears my head and I know this will not only make me feel (and look) better, but will also affect my work more positively.
Do vacations inspire you to go home and be a better you, too? I'd love to hear about it!
Xoxo
