I am taking a vacation and couldn't be more excited about it! We leave on March 8th and return on March 21st. The destination? Dubai! How exciting is that?
I often say how my clients become some of my greatest friends. After working in such an intimate manner, it's hard not to become fast friends! Well, this is what happened with my friends in Dubai. They started out as clients! The husband had arranged for a session for his wife's birthday when they were visiting Vegas in 2009. They kept in contact and I am proud to call them friends now. Well, they invited Joe and I to come see them in Dubai! I am going to do a couple of shoots for the Mrs AND will be teaching the hubby how to shoot his wife! They are learning photography together and what better way to keep things fresh in their relationship than by him being able to capture her beauty? So fun! Really looking forward to spending more time with these two amazing individuals!
The past 6 months have been a bit hectic for me. On top of a heavy shoot workload I also worked on planning for the workshop (spent many a late night on this and practically wrote an entire book in doing so), dealt with the crappy trademark stuff (OMG there is a lot of work that goes into that!) and have been working on some new ideas for the direction and growth of Haute Shots.
The workshop was quite honestly one of the scariest and most challenging things I have ever done! I most definitely have a newfound respect for those who put their necks on the line to teach. I put about 6 months into the planning of it and trying to figure out how to best share what I have learned thus far about running a business as well as shooting amazing women. Not an easy task since people naturally need different things and learn in different ways. I felt like chickening out many times! I kept having to remind myself though that this workshop wasn't for me, it was all because of the requests from others and I really didn't want to disappoint them. I was so grateful to have Robert join me though, as I thought there was a great balance of his 20 years plus experience as opposed to my 'new kid on the block' status. While I have been around for awhile in the newer genre of boudoir, my experience pales next to his long-standing experince as a wedding photography. I learned so much by doing this workshop. The most important is that I can face my fears and still be standing after! I also realized that I am way too hard on myself and need to work on that. Another lesson learned was that maybe next time we don't need quite as big of a production. There was just too much going on, too many models, to many expenses, too many topics, etc, that I think it may have lost some focus. Next time, I will keep it much more simple - a less fancy venue, fewer models - less hair and makeup jobs, and a more streamlined schedule will suffice. I'm not sure anyone even cared about the venue or models much really. A basic room with one or two models would have been just fine. And, I will for sure be hiring someone to help keep us on schedule! A room full of creatives can get pretty out of control rather quickly! I am contemplating private mentoring as an option though too. It's easier for people to learn in one-on-one situations where they get your undivided attention. I loved sharing what I know but found it challenging to speak to each individual's different needs as a group. But, aside from all of the lessons learned (and laying off myself now), I do think it went pretty much as planned and gave us direction with new events we might offer. And I was so grateful to get to spend some time with so many amazing people who attended. I just hope that everyone learned from us, got some amazing portfolio images and had a blast! I would like to again thank everyone who attended. I greatly appreciated your support and look forward to building further relationships with you all! And I am especially excited to watch you all grow and succeed in your businesses!
So, as you can probably tell, I am long overdue for a bit of a break. My body and soul tells me this. But I am having a hard time coming to terms that I won't be home shooting my clients for awhile! I'm going to miss you all! I live and breathe my business, after all. But, I plan on coming back refreshed and renewed and full of some new and exciting ideas! And, I look forward to sharing my images from my time spent in such a unique destination.
If you are wanting to schedule a photography session with me, please know that I will not be available for shoots until after March 22nd.
XOXO

You are going to love Dubai! If you get a chance go to a club called Amnesia, its near the hard rock, the cover charge is worth it, and make sure to bring your camera!
