Boudoir as an artform is nothing new really. In fact, it's always been around, it just gets a more modernized facelift every once in awhile. Throughout history we can see it in famous old paintings, early photographs, etc. The biggest difference with boudoir between now and then though besides modernization, is it has been made more affordable in recent years for the everyday woman to be able to experience this luxury service. Back in the Art Deco period, for example, only high society women could commission artists (such as one of my all-time favorite painters, Tamara de Lempicka) to paint them in seductive poses for their personal collection of art. Pretty fabulous, huh? Here are some examples from Tamara that she painted for these well-to-do beauties in the 1920's (Click on thumbnails for full versions):
